Chapter Ten
âTry to stay quiet, they have only been asleep for a couple of hours,â I hear Molly say at a whisper as I begin to stir. My head is sore off lack of sleep, but I force my eyes open and see Molly helping Maxwell to sit down in the chair near the window, he groans loudly and clutches his wrist.
âYou need a Doctor,â Garrick says quietly to his father. âI will go and get Alsein and bring him up here.â Molly nods, and Garrick swiftly leaves, the front door slams behind him which makes Zac jump.
âWhat's going on?â Zac says wearily as I sit up next to him and see Maxwell properly. He is covered in blood, a gash above his eye and a bust lip, he is sat cradling his arm, the knuckles on his hand scraped and cut, and he looks tired and in pain. âWhat the fuck happened?â Zac says with clear panic in his voice, he gets up from the sofa and goes straight over to his fathers side.
âI'm fine,â Maxwell groans. âDon't worry.â
âI'm going to get some ice for your eye to stop it swelling up,â Molly says then heads for the kitchen.
âWhat happened? What did Devon say?â Zac asks his father, but Maxwell just sighs. âIs Josh going to be held accountable?â
âZac, slow down,â Maxwell shakes his head as Molly comes back with a bag of ice, which he takes and carefully places it on his face, he winces as it touches his skin. âI spoke to Devon, told him everything I knew, and we both spoke to Josh, things got a little heated between us all after that.â
âI guess Devon didn't react well to the accusations?â Molly asks and Maxwell shakes his head again.
âNo. Not at all,â Maxwell sighs. âAfter I told him about what happened between his son and Fallon, he got very defensive, accused me of lying and brushed my statement aside. Then Josh turned up, he knew as soon as he saw me, why I was there. But what I didn't foresee was how he would explain where all of this came from.â
âWhat do you mean? Did he admit to raping Fallon?â Zac asks as he waits nervously for his fathers answer.
âHe admitted to having relations with Fallon,â Maxwell says cautiously.
âThen that is good, isn't it?â Zac responds hopefully but Maxwell doesn't look too sure.
âNot exactly. Josh said that he met Fallon a couple of years ago,â Maxwell explains. âHe stopped to ask for directions and they both got talking, Fallon and him had a lot in common. They met a few times, hanging out and getting to know each other until one thing led to another and Fallon gave herself to Josh and promised to marry him when she turned 19.â
âWhat?â Zac snaps, he glances to me and I just sit frozen, wrapped in the blanket on the sofa. âIt is all lies, Fallon would never have done that.â
âHe was very adamant that those were the events that took place,â Maxwell replies.
